Liberty Offering - Giving Testimonies

Cathy Christiansen -

Last year as the promotion for our first annual Liberty Offering began I started to pray and consider what I could give. I really wanted my offering to be sacrificial and not just generous. The one thing that I had at that time that I really treasured was a paid trip for the KLOVE cruise for January of 2009. We value our vacation time together. It's our opportunity to get away from our busy schedules and all the distractions of our life to spend quality time together. But I felt that God was challenging me to give it up. I shared this with Carter and asked him to pray about it and after he did he agreed that we should make this sacrifice to God, so we donated the cruise as one of the silent auction items. It was a struggle in my heart to let it go, and I have to admit that I felt sad throughout the year over it. At that time one thing that God knew was a huge desire of mine, besides traveling, was to be able to retire from my job and go into full time ministry. This had been a dream God put in my heart since 1995 shortly after I finally surrendered my heart to Him. I had been waiting patiently for many years on God to make this happen, but for the last several months prior to the Liberty Offering I had become much more anxious about it. I was ready to make a change. The Liberty Offering was in May and by the end of August an opportunity for employment opened up at the church and I was given the job! It was just the most amazing feeling to know that what I had desired for so long was finally going to happen! I truly believe that my sacrificial offering to God was instrumental in getting this job. It really took my faith to another level and I really needed to be at least at that level to be in this position and God knew that! Being in full time ministry is way better than going on a cruise, so God out gave me! Not only did I get a new career, but in November an opportunity came up to book a vacation to Hawaii through our timeshare and the date was the same time frame that we would have been taking the cruise! The resort didn't cost us anything and we had air miles to cover our airfare! So when January came my husband and I ended up having a wonderful vacation together after all!

Back in April, I was doing our taxes and after crunching numbers, realized our jobs didn't take out enough money last year, and we owed the IRS $900. We are both teachers, and didn't have anywhere near that to spare. So, we sent the IRS a hundred bucks and knew they would bill us later and we would think about it then. I told my husband I knew God would provide. So Liberty comes along, and we prayed about the amount we should give, and prayed that it would be a sacrificial offering, and God gave us a number that was a sacrifice, but we obeyed and gave joyfully. Twelve days later, we receive an envelope from the IRS...the bill (or at least that is what I thought) Wrong. It was a letter from the IRS stating we made a mistake in calculating, and not only do we not owe any money, but they owed us would be sending us a check for $248! Yay God!

I did a lot of praying on what I could give for Liberty. The company I worked for was cutting back my hours. I hadn't worked since the previous Thursday and wasn't sure if I would even be able to pay my rent. Faithfully and willing I gave what I was shown to give. I put my faith in God and knew He would take care of me. Monday I was laid off from my job. I put my faith in God knowing that no matter what He will take care of me and He has a plan for me. This morning the company I worked for called me. They told me that they had talked to one of our customer and competitors and were looking for a welder and told me to call them. I called the company at 8:00 am and had an interview with them at 10:00 am. By noon that day, not only did I have a new job but I also am paid a better salary. My faith in God is now stronger than ever and I will be doubling my Liberty offering.
